A Whole New Way to Fly

French novelist and critic, Marcel Proust, once said “The real voyage of discovery consists of not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.” Can you imagine what the world would be like if the Joseph and Jacques Montgolfier brothers had not invented the first hot air balloon; or Sir George Cayley (the father of aerodynamics) had not created the first glider; or the Orville Wright and Wilbur Wright brothers had not created the first airplane? Can you imagine the world if all these great men had not believed strongly in their dreams that they could fly like the birds? Well, now that we are able to sit on a plane 30,000 feet above the ground, would you dare to dream further?

Leading aircraft manufacturer Airbus is now taking this dream to a whole new level. In Jun 2011, Airbus showed the world in advance of the Paris Airshow “Le Bourget”, their vision of the revolutionary Airbus Concept Plane for 2050.

The Airbus Concept Cabin is packed with innovations and technologies that will reshape passenger experiences on board with features such as biometric check-ins; intelligent cabin wall membranes for open panaramic views of the sky; self-cleaning materials made from sustainable plant fibres; harvesting of passenger body heat to power cabin features;  etc. Other interesting features include morphing seats to suit your body shape; recharging (such as massaging) in your ‘vitalising seat’; interactive conferences; virtual and/or holographic games; etc.

Don’t believe it? Watch the video below and check out Airbus’ press release. You can also read more about Airbus’ vision of the future over at their “Future by Airbus” website.

So who says the sky is the limit?
