University of Aberdeen Library – Due to open in Sep 2011

University of Aberdeen LibraryThe new University of Aberdeen Library (project worth £57 million) is due to open in September 2011.
According to the library project website :
– the new library will replace the existing Queen Mother Library, and provide a 21st century learning and research environment for students, staff and visitors
– the project is part of the University’s £228M 10-year capital development programme.
– the library will house 1.2 million books in print format, an additional 500,000 in electronic format
– the new library will also be a showcase for a 200,000 strong collection of historic books and over 4,000 irreplaceable archival collections, containing material in some 25 different languages
– the new building will also extend the benefits of the library and cultural centre beyond the University population to the local community, business sector and all who live and work in this area of Scotland
